Weddings on the Beach: Embrace Romance by the Shoreline

Matt Elliott • Sep 01, 2021

Having your wedding on the beach has to be one of the most sought after locations!

Weddings on the beach

The following statement/question is the thing I hear most on a wedding. Keep in mind I'm a photographer and from your guests, I get photo questions a lot. Scenario one, it's a cloudy day and the usual thing I hear is: You'd be loving shooting on a cloudy day like this!? Note the two end markers there, an exclamation mark and a question mark. Because that could be both a statement and a question. So the age old question is whether we prefer a cloudy day or sunny for taking our photos.

I always thought that I should prefer cloud because that's what you hear the majority of photographers say. Aside from that, most images that make it to publication or featured in blogs or social media, are typically all on cloudy days. There are obvious exceptions to this of course such as weddings on the beach,  sunsets, venue styling and getting ready sections, however, most ceremony and portrait images are generally from cloudy days where you have a nice even spread of light.

In most cases, for me, yes I'd prefer a cloudy day over full blown sunshine. But... those two scenarios are polar opposites and our weather doesn't give us too many of either of those days during the summer months. In Melbourne where I shoot for the most part, the average weather that we have is partly cloudy. This is based on the summer wedding season which for us between September and May. We have wild swings too of course.

The reason I like a bit of sunshine has a little bit to do about photography and a bit about the psychology about what goes into getting good images. From a photography view, the sun creates light and shadow which gives the photo depth and contrast which be used a million different ways. From a psychology view, sunny days create warmth which makes everyone comfortable and relaxed in their photos.

Getting married on the beach in Australia combines the magic of love with the beauty of nature. Australia's picturesque coastal settings offer an idyllic backdrop for your day, creating a unique and memorable experience for you and your guests.

Firstly, the stunning natural scenery that beaches in Australia provide is unparalleled. With golden sands stretching along the coastline, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and breathtaking sunsets over the horizon, the setting alone creates a romantic atmosphere that sets the stage for a dreamlike wedding ceremony.

Secondly, a beach wedding in Australia allows for a relaxed and laid-back vibe. The soothing sound of waves crashing gently on the shore creates a tranquil ambiance, perfect for calming pre-wedding jitters and fostering an intimate and serene environment for exchanging vows.

Thirdly, the versatility of beach weddings provides ample opportunities for personalisation. You can opt for a barefoot ceremony in the sand or decorate the venue with natural elements like seashells and driftwood, allowing you to infuse your unique style into the event.

Additionally, the weather in Australia often complements beach weddings, with warm and sunny days being common. This enhances the overall experience, making it more comfortable for you and your guests to celebrate and enjoy the festivities without worrying about unpredictable weather.

Lastly, your wedding photos and film using the beach as a background will be nothing short of spectacular. The natural light and picturesque surroundings provide a photogenic backdrop, capturing beautiful moments that you'll cherish forever.

In conclusion, choosing to get married on the beach in Australia is an exceptional idea that combines natural beauty, relaxed vibes, personalisation options, outdoor activities, favourable weather, and stunning photo opportunities. It promises to be an unforgettable experience, not only for you and your partner but also for your guests who will cherish the memories of your special day for years to come.
