Sarah & Steve grew up in a place called Maynooth which is a town half an hour west of Dublin, Ireland. They met, fell in love and moved to Australia. I can't remember how many date changes they had through 2020 and 2021 but when they were finally able to have their day, it was a cracker.
It's so hard not to mention the weather in Melbourne with its reputation but this was your classic Crowded House four seasons in one day kind of day. We had it all, wind, rain, sun and cloud. For the right moments though, the weather saved its most favoured and we had sun shining through their ceremony.
When they first booked me I wasn't doing films but because of the date changes and delays, I was up and running by the time their day came along so they put their trust in me very early on and booked a film too.
We chatted through what they would like their film to be about and a lot of it centred around their enormous dog, Timber, their families and the story of how they came to be in Melbourne.
With every wedding, I learn. It could be someones life story where I get inspired. It could be a mistake I make which gives me a chance to improve or it could be a new skill I acquire by trying something new.
With Sarah & Steve, I learned that entertainment just like we have at bars and pubs works really well at weddings too. They booked a percussionist who was also rapping over the top of the DJ. It brought the crowd in and kept them on the dance floor all night.
