Why family photos are so important

With this post, I wanted to talk about why family photos are so important so here's a story from my own experience.
This is the only photo I have of my family together and this is the reason I value photos so highly.
On the left is my sister Nicole from my Dads first marriage. His wife, Pauline, passed away suddenly from a brain aneurysm when Dad was 26. The two middle kids are my brother Andrew and sister Fiona from Mum’s first marriage. Of course, there’s my Mum rocking that captain’s hat and there’s my Dad in those terrible sunnies.
I remember a couple of things from this trip to the Gold Coast. One was a thunderstorm that we watched from our hotel room with all the lights off. The second thing was that Mum introduced me to the band Creedence Clearwater Revival with the song, Bad Moon Rising. Whenever there’s a lightning storm, I think of that song and I’m a kid again in that hotel room. It’s like magic.
I just printed copies of this photo for my two boys to keep in their photo boxes. The family in this photo hasn’t been together since the mid 1980’s so it’s a special one to keep no matter the reasons for the separation.
So what’s the message from this story? Photos are bigger than ourselves and sometimes you don’t know how much they mean until way down the track.
