Planning Session - How we schedule your big day

Matt Elliott • Aug 14, 2016

I’ve dedicated this post to help explain what we get up to at our planning session for your big day.

First, we work out what suits everyone, be it a phone call or a meeting in person. If we're meeting in person, in most cases it will be at my office. I’ll have my iPad with me to look at the venue on Google Maps as well as looking at photos that either myself or other photographers have taken.

Generally we try and schedule a planning session for somewhere close to your wedding date so that you know most of your details such as where each of you are getting ready as well as what the schedule is for the reception. It's not imperative that you have all of these details but it helps.

The last thing to explain is what we actually get up to during a planning session. We start off by working out the schedule for the day and I’ll need to know things like where each of you are getting ready, whether we are covering the boys getting ready through to the ceremony start time, reception start time and all of the formalities during the evening such as speeches, cake cutting, meal times and first dances.

Other things that we can do during the evening is to go around the room and get shots of you and your friends together as well as going outside and getting some night shots with remote flash or we can do some sparkler photos with long exposure settings. We’ll also need to work out how long you want us there for at the reception whether that be up until the end of your formalities or all the way through to the end of the night.

Depending on how long you have us booked for at the reception, we can cover things such as candid and set shots of you and your guests, photos of the food being served, dancing and photos of any young children having a good time. We’ll also come and borrow your rings and set up a nice macro shot with your flowers.
