Steph + Mike's Engagement Photos and Film

Steph & Mike have been a gift to me. I've really felt myself when I'm around them which means we get the best moments laid out in front of us.

What I've learned and incorporated into everything I do is connection. You can have the best cameras and the most amazing locations in the world but if the connection between client and photographer isn't there, the results won't be great. So, in what ways have I changed my approach to build connection? For starters, I have included more questions into my initial contact form. Then, during the process of planning the wedding with the couple, I ask them to complete a detailed questionnaire which covers family matters and helps me to identify what's important to them. All this on top of our planning session which is either over zoom or done face to face. Sometimes these turn into more of a catch up with some planning bolted onto the end :)

It might sound corny but connection between us is the key to creating images that you'll love. Creating comfort between us counts more than what camera or lens that I bring. This connection played out when we met for their engagement shoot at the Briars in Mt Martha on the Mornington Peninsula.

There has definitely been a process that I've gone through to get to this point in my career over the last 9 years. From learning equipment to how a wedding day unfolds to posing couples to now honing in on building rapport and connection with people. Figuring these things out on my journey has been life changing. I'm guilty of thinking that all I needed was a camera when I first started out. That's so far from being correct and it's evident in the way my images have improved over the years.
