Wedding Photography Styles Explained

Our main style of wedding photography is journalistic. Other words to describe our style might be candid or natural. We believe this style of photography is ideally suited to weddings as it captures those special moments in a direct and natural way. It allows our couples to enjoy the day with their loved-ones with minimal input from us.

There's a little bit to learn about our journalistic approach to wedding photography so please take a few minutes to read through.

Our Journalistic Photography Style

Journalistic wedding photography is about capturing meaningful moments, whether they're big or small, on your wedding day. Wedding photography has now moved away from the typical staged photos that used to be most common. This means we can help you avoid those awkward photos that don't stand the test of time.

Instead, we'll create a set of photographs that capture something raw, real and authentic about your day. It's a journalistic approach that finds the truth and the beauty in your wedding day by keeping things real. That's something that's not always possible with a more traditional approach to wedding photography.

We keep things minimal and simple in order to capture the best possible images and ensure your photos remain valuable to you and your partner for the rest of your lives. After all, that's got to be the main aim here. This also helps to keep you at ease and relaxed during the day.

We won't pressure you to pose repeatedly throughout the day because we'll be doing our job as you naturally enjoy the biggest and most special day of your life. And that's how we create the most special and meaningful photographs too.

Traditional Wedding Photography

Just because we prioritise our candid and journalistic approach to wedding photography, that doesn't mean we don't also provide traditional photography services as well. We know that the traditional shots of the kind you see on your grandparents' mantlepiece are as important and valued as ever.

A few photos like these can look great and provide you with traditional photos to go alongside the candid and natural shots we also take. We believe combining both approaches can work really well and produce the kinds of results you're looking for from your wedding photographs.

When taking these traditional photos, we'll aim to make you feel relaxed and at ease so that they come out the way you want them to. Of course, we'll discuss options for poses, positions and backgrounds. It will all depend on the setting and what kind of traditional photographs are most important to you.

These traditional photos will include family photos and these are important because family is a big part of any wedding day. We'll also take some bridal portraits that you can savour and look back on for a long time to come. Our creative direction will ensure they never come off too rigid or dull either.

Finding the Right Balance for You

What's most important is that we find the right balance for you. We tend to aim for 90% of the shots being natural and candid ones. These are the photos that will tell the story of your day and capture the moments that might otherwise be forgotten. We believe these are the most important when it comes to painting a picture of your wedding day.

That leaves 10% of the photos that are in the more traditional mode and that are posed for in various settings and locations at your wedding venue. Although there may be fewer of these photos, that doesn't mean they're not also important. They'll complement the candid photographs very well indeed.

Of course, none of this is set in stone; we're simply giving you an idea of how we normally work and what you can expect. But we will discuss things with you and assess the situation on the day to come up with a way of creating a collection of photographs that do justice to your wedding day and everything it means.

We've been doing this work for a long time, so we're experienced enough to know how to find the balance of photographs and styles that works for you. You can trust us to get it right and provide you with the wedding photographs you'll always hold dear.

The Benefits of Journalistic Wedding Photography

So, why should our candid wedding photography style appeal to you? Well, it means us being able to capture the day as it unfolds in a natural way. That matters because your wedding day is one of the most special days of your life and you want photos that capture it in a real way and that's what we do.

Simply posing for photos in a staged and structured way doesn't quite capture how the day was and why it was so special. Sure, there's still a place for those kinds of photos and we'll take them for you because we know how important they are. But candid photography captures moments that traditional wedding photography simply can't.

It's about telling the story of your day in a natural way, and both myself and my staff photographers never get in the way or impose themselves too much. That way, you can feel comfortable and natural, while we are getting on with doing our job.

We'll be able to capture a wide range of moments that combine to create the story of your wedding day. Looking back at them in years to come, you'll be able to see your day as it really was and remember it fondly.

We believe in providing a service that's right for our clients. That's why we always listen to your needs and discuss things with you before your wedding day. We know that each couple is unique and we'll find an approach that works for you on the day while staying true to our candid style.

Getting the balance right between traditional photos and candid photos is something we're always looking to do when we work with new clients. We're flexible enough in our approach to ensure you get the mix of photos that you're looking for and that you'll treasure for many years to come.

No matter which approach we're focusing on at any given time, our aim will be to make you feel comfortable and relaxed with the situation. This is particularly important when posing for photos with your partner. We take the best and most captivating photos when you and your partner are truly present with one another.

We strive to capture beautiful moments in a candid and natural way. These are the moments that are most real and evidently packed full of meaning for you, your partner and the rest of the guests at your wedding. You can be sure that you'll be consulted ahead of time to ensure the photos we create are everything you want them to be.
